How to Make Your Business Stand-Out in a Crowded World
If you’ve had the opportunity to speak with me – you know I’m keenly interested in what what makes your business unique….
Yes – I love that you’re in telecom, retail, service, printing, software, landscaping, metal fabrication and so forth – but so are a LOT of other people….
But why should I decide to give you my money?
You’ve got 8 seconds to hit me over the head with a reason why I need to pay attention to YOU!
Answer the questions:
- What makes your business different?
- Why should I do business with you instead of one of your competitors?
- Why should I do business with you instead of choosing an alternative product (like using an at-home do-it-yourself product instead of hiring you to do it)?
- Why should I do business with you instead of doing absolutely nothing at all?
You see, I recently gave a seminar and asked the crowd how many people believe their customers are smarter today then they were years ago … just about everyone raised their hand.
We’re taking part in the information age – between the Internet, Social Media and the plethora of review-type resources out there – people have more information about you, your product and your competitors than ever before in history!
What are they looking for?
Very simply:
A reason WHY they should do business
with you instead of anybody else.
In most cases, they already know they’re going to spend money with someone – it’s just a matter of who they’re going to spend money with …
And, they don’t care about how long you’ve been in business or how many fancy features you can offer them - they only care how your product/service is going to help them get a better result.
So if you’re a printer, I don’t care to know about the details of your printing machines or why your paper is superior – in my case, I just want to know how you’re going to help my company look good, save money and help me from making any stupid mistakes.
Think about it, Tony Hsieh (CEO of Zappos) could introduce himself by saying:
“I own an online shoe store”
or he could say:
“We have the premiere destination to purchase shoes online with free shipping,
free returns, free 365 day return policy and guarantee the best customer service 24/7.”
Which introduction would get you to pay more attention?
Think different. Stand out. Be unique.
With gratitude,
Charlie
